Personally, making friends when you are an adult is easy if you choose to. It’s not like in grade school or high school that you are forced to be with a group of people. When you are an adult, you can easily go to a concert of an artist you love and befriend the ones that are there. You already know your common interest and you just have to build the friendship from there.

There are a lot of ways to make friends as an adult. If you are into books, you can join book club. Or if you are a sports fan, you can build a friendship through playing the sport you love. Or even just making a fantasy football team, you can be able to find someone with common interest that you can hit it up with.

Making friends as an adult is easy but keeping them is a whole different story. You really do need to make an effort. You should communicate, make time and be there when they need you the most. Having and keeping a solid circle of friends is essential and it can even help on your physical and emotional health.

How to make friends in your 30s is not much different than in your teens or adulthood. There are several principles that can be tried, including:

1) Good prejudice (positive thinking) first; someone is good, before proven to do bad.

2) Be (speak) friendly, polite, humble, easy to forgive other people's mistakes, and not arrogant. Take care of each other's attitude (behavior and speech) for the sake of a good relationship in the long run.

3) Respond to the question/attitude as necessary (not excessive).

4) Don't ask questions that are too personal (to make them difficult).

5) Find friends (prioritize) who are roughly equivalent (relevant) to you so that your conversation can connect; the others are bonuses (not the main goal).

6) Appreciate what they have, and occasionally be a good listener for them while offering advice when asked.

Making friends as an adult in your 30s can seem daunting, especially if you've recently moved to a new area or are looking to expand your social circle. Here are some tips to help you make new friends:

Join social groups or clubs: One of the best ways to meet new people is to join social groups or clubs that align with your interests. Look for groups related to hobbies, sports, or causes you to care about. This will give you a chance to connect with like-minded people who share your passions.

Attend events and activities: Attend events and activities in your community, such as festivals, concerts, or art shows. This is a great way to meet new people and experience new things. You can also consider taking classes or workshops to learn a new skill and meet people with similar interests.

Volunteer: Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and meet new people at the same time. Look for local organizations or causes that you're passionate about and offer to volunteer your time.

Use social media: Social media can be a useful tool for connecting with new people in your area. Join local groups or use hashtags to find people who share your interests. You can also use apps like Meetup or Bumble BFF to find groups or individuals with similar interests.

Connect with coworkers: If you work in a larger organization, take the opportunity to connect with your coworkers. Join company events or social clubs, and look for opportunities to collaborate with colleagues on projects or initiatives.

Be open-minded and proactive: Making friends as an adult can be challenging, but it's important to be open-minded and proactive. Make an effort to reach out to new people and engage in activities that interest you. Remember that building strong friendships takes time and effort, but the rewards are worth it.

Although friendship is often a process that develops naturally and we don't know when or how it started, sometimes we want to make a new friend or strengthen our existing friendships. According to experts, there are three main conditions for making close friends: Closeness, random encounters and trust. After the age of 30, these conditions become harder to find.
One way to make friends is to have an experience or take a course or training. You can join a nature walk, start an online course, join a reading group. You can meet new people through new activities. If you say no to everything, you are closing yourself off to new experiences and new people. Don't hesitate to say yes to what you want to do and what you think you can do. The first step to making friends is to talk. Focus on your own interests and have enough knowledge/experience to talk about them. This way, what you say will be interesting to people who share your interests and they will want to be friends with you. If there is one obstacle to making new friends, it is being prejudiced.

Always keep in mind that people are diverse and this diversity can teach you a lot. And while making new friends may seem a little more complicated as an adult, the simple advice you probably heard as a child can still apply. The best way to make friends is to be friends. So smile at people and treat them with kindness. 😊
