According to the Big Bag Theory, about 13. 8 million years ago something very extraordinary happened. The universe, which was until then completely empty and void of anything, was suddenly interrupted by an almighty explosion. This caused matter that had suddenly appeared to be flung out from a single central point to fill a once empty and barren universe with substance, for existence had begun.

Alternative theories include that universe was created in a seven day period by a God-like being. Or that a divine being created the universe from out of himself.
