Usually, college dorms will come with your own bed and a desk. Most universities actually have a list of essentials on their website (here's one from target). Depending on your building's guidelines you should have a rice cooker or pressure cooker to be able to make some of your own meals. Other essential appliances are a water boiler for all your instant ramen needs. If permitted a microwave will be great to have.

A comfortable reading chair or futon so that you won't have to sit at your desk all day. Bookshelves and other types of storage organizers like for your clothes. Pick out a laundry basket that you'll be able to transport without difficulty.

It'll be easier to figure out what you need once you move in and get a better idea of what kind of space you're working with. I bought most of my essentials before moving in but ended up buying a lot more afterward. Just in case you don't miss anything here's a helpful article with a comprehensive list.

A bed, a desk, a chair, a lamp, and storage. These are the essential furnishings for a college dorm room. Of course, you can personalize your space with additional furniture or decor, but these five items are the bare minimum. Of course, the bed will be your room's most expensive piece of furniture. You may also want a mattress pad protector and a set of sheets to keep your mattress clean and fresh throughout the year.

A bed, a desk, a chair, a lamp, and storage are essential for a college dorm room. You'll need a place to sleep, study, and store belongings. A TV and other electronics are optional but can make your space more comfortable. Make sure you have outlets for all of the electronics that you bring. Unplugging appliances when not in use is important, so they don't continue to drain power from the outlet.

What should I pack for a weeklong vacation?: For a weeklong vacation, you'll want at least seven outfits (two casual outfits each day). Pack underwear, bras, socks, and tights/leggings if something goes wrong with one of your clothes or shoes.
