Halloween, a contraction to All Hallows’ Eve, is a holiday observed on October 31, the evening before All Saints’ (or All Hallows’) Day. The celebration marks the day before the Western Christian feast of All Saints and initiates the season of Allhallowtide, which lasts three days and concludes with All Souls’ Day. In much of Europe and most of North America, observance of Halloween is largely non-religious. Halloween is celebrated on Monday, October 31, 2022.

Halloween had its origins in the festival of Samhain among the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland. On the day corresponding to November 1 on contemporary calendars, the new year was believed to begin. That date was considered the beginning of the winter period, the date on which the herds were returned from pasture and land tenures were renewed.

The custom of trick-or-treating, in which children dress up in costume and solicit treats from neighbors, became popular in the United States in the early 20th century as Irish and Scottish communities revived the Old World custom of “guising,” in which a person would dress in costume and tell a joke, recite a poem, or perform some other trick in exchange for a piece of fruit or other treats. By 1950, trick-or-treating for candy had become one of Halloween’s most popular activities. Today, Halloween is one of the biggest holidays for candy sales in the United States, exceeding $2.5 billion annually.

Halloween is celebrated on Oct 31. It originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain when people believed that lighting bonfires and wearing costumes keep off ghosts. Celts believed that on the night of October 31, the boundary between the world of the living and the dead became blurry and ghosts return to earth.

Over time, it evolved and became a fun holiday with activities like wearing costumes and going on trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, festive parties and Halloween themed foods, watching scary movies and pulling scary pranks with your friends. Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated on October 31st every year. It is a fun holiday where people dress up in costumes, go trick-or-treating, and decorate their houses with spooky decorations.

Halloween is celebrated because it has a long history dating back to ancient Celtic times. The Celts believed that on Halloween night, the boundary between the living and the dead was blurred, and ghosts could visit the living. To protect themselves from these ghosts, people would dress up in scary costumes and light bonfires.

Today, Halloween is a fun holiday where people can dress up as their favorite characters, eat candy, and have fun with their friends and family. For example, you might dress up as a witch, a superhero, or a scary monster, and go trick-or-treating with your friends.
