When, as a parent, do you find time for yourself?

Schedule it! If you do not prioritize it and schedule it, then the time will quickly slip away from you. See if a family member or friend will babysit at a set time once a week or even once every two weeks. If money is a factor, try bartering. Say you will babysit for them for an evening if they do the same. Or cook them a meal in return, something like that – as long as it benefits both parties equally.

No time is ever too small. Even if it is an hour to do something you love or pamper yourself, take it!

Also, remember that you do not need to say "Yes" to every volunteer opportunity, play date, etc. Overscheduling ourselves is so easy to do as a parent, and our plates are full enough as it is. Then we do not have enough time to do the things we need to do, let alone the things we want to do, either.

Remember that the more time you're able to take for yourself to recharge and rest means that you're going to be able to be there even more for your kids. We can't pour from an empty cup!

As a parent, finding time for yourself can be challenging. Between caring for your children, managing a household, and perhaps working a job, it can feel like there are not enough hours in the day. However, it's essential to make time for self-care and activities that bring you joy. Here are some tips on how to find time for yourself as a parent:

Schedule it in

One of the most effective ways to make time for yourself is to schedule it in your calendar. Whether it's an hour every day or a few hours once a week, make sure you prioritize this time and stick to it.

Wake up earlier or stay up later

If you're a morning person, waking up an hour earlier than usual can be an excellent way to start your day with some quiet time for yourself. Alternatively, if you're a night owl, staying up an hour later than usual can give you some much-needed alone time.

Ask for help

Don't be afraid to ask your partner, a family member, or a friend to watch your children for a few hours. This can give you some time to yourself, whether it's to run errands or indulge in a favorite hobby.

Combine activities

If finding time for exercise or socializing is challenging, consider combining activities. For example, you could join a parent-child yoga class or a playgroup where you can socialize with other parents while your children play.

Take advantage of naptime or quiet time

If your children still nap, use that time to do something for yourself, whether it's reading a book, taking a nap yourself, or doing a hobby you enjoy. Alternatively, if your children have quiet time, encourage them to read or play independently while you take some time for yourself.
