House styles have evolved for centuries to accommodate changes in tastes, lifestyle, and environment. Exploring the house styles that create American neighborhoods allows you to envision your dream home and know exactly what you’re looking for before you’re ready to buy. Understanding the foundation of your home’s design can also help you plan your decor and landscaping — making a house your home.

I want to believe that individual taste could determine or play a key role in deciding your most appealing architectural home design. However, some designs are appealing, such as the Colonial Style; which comes in a rectangular shape. Another style is Victorian architecture which several prolific architects and varying cityscapes influenced.

Also, we have both Contemporary and Modern Styles. To be very literal, contemporary means now, while modern refers to technological and engineering developments that date back to the turn of the 20th Century. To keep it simple, modern architecture focuses more on industrial metals such as steel, concrete, and glass (innovative industrial developments of the time). While the contemporary design may use these same elements, its designs are considered new, re-thought, or forward-thinking.

A home with a more modern design is more appealing because it looks clean and sleek. Plus, a modern design is usually more functional than a traditional design. However, some prefer traditional designs because they are more comfortable and familiar. So it depends on your personal preference.

Assuming you are asking about the design of a home's exterior, many different looks can be appealing. It depends on what the homeowner is looking for and what fits the neighborhood's style. A well-kept home with a classic design might be more appealing than a brand new home with a modern design. It varies!

When it comes to the architectural design of a home, there are various styles to choose from, each with its own unique charm and appeal. In this post, we will explore some of the most popular architectural designs and analyze which one is more appealing.

Contemporary Style

Contemporary-style homes are characterized by clean lines, sleek finishes, and a minimalist approach. The focus is on simplicity and functionality, with an emphasis on natural light and open spaces. Contemporary homes are a popular choice for those who prefer a modern look and feel.

Craftsman Style

Craftsman-style homes feature a warm and inviting design, with wood finishes, handcrafted details, and earthy colors. These homes are known for their attention to detail, with exposed rafters, decorative brackets, and intricate woodwork. Craftsman homes are ideal for those who value tradition and craftsmanship.

Colonial Style

Colonial-style homes are inspired by the architecture of early American settlers. They typically feature a symmetrical façade, a central front door, and evenly spaced windows. The interior of colonial homes is often formal, with a center hallway and rooms on either side. These homes are popular for their classic and timeless appeal.

Victorian Style

Victorian-style homes are known for their ornate details and whimsical charm. They feature intricate trim work, colorful paint schemes, and decorative elements such as turrets, bay windows, and wrap-around porches. Victorian homes are ideal for those who appreciate the romance and nostalgia of a bygone era.

Mediterranean Style

Mediterranean-style homes are inspired by the architecture of the Mediterranean region. They feature stucco exteriors, red-tiled roofs, and wrought iron details. The interior of Mediterranean homes is often characterized by arched doorways, exposed beams, and colorful tiles. These homes are ideal for those who love the warmth and vibrancy of the Mediterranean culture.
