Why are the streaming services becoming so expensive?

Streaming services are at the mercy of their media companies. If you want ESPN you’re going to get Hulu and Disney+ whether you like it or not because they’re owned by Disney. 

Not to mention the pandemic created a streaming boom putting pressure on streaming services to pump out more content. The budgets for these shows and movies have definitely increased as well.

The price increase could also be a solution to the password-sharing problem. More people using one account means fewer subscriptions. They have to break even somehow. Not to mention with all these streaming options I'm sure some of them aren’t going to last.

Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services are getting more expensive for several reasons.

Firstly, producing original content is expensive. Many streaming services are investing heavily in creating their own original shows and movies in order to attract and retain subscribers. These productions can cost hundreds of millions of dollars to produce, which puts pressure on the companies to raise their subscription prices in order to cover these costs.

Secondly, licensing fees for content are increasing. As the streaming market becomes more competitive, studios and networks are demanding higher fees for their content. Streaming services are forced to pay these higher fees in order to offer a wide variety of content to their subscribers.

Thirdly, the cost of technology and infrastructure is also a factor. Streaming services need to constantly upgrade their technology and infrastructure to provide a smooth and reliable streaming experience for their users. This can include investing in more servers, improving their content delivery network, and upgrading their video compression technology. These costs can also contribute to the need to raise subscription prices.

Finally, inflation and general cost increases also play a role. As the cost of living increases, so do the costs associated with running a business. Streaming services are no exception, and they need to raise their prices in order to keep up with these rising costs.
